Abstract/Contents:"From Jim Ragsdale, mulch program coordinator for the St. Petersburg Sanitation Department, comes this report: 'We recycled an estimated 40,000 tons during our last fiscal year. The yard trimmings were processed into different products for various markets. Biomass fuel (from fresh ground material) represents 35 percent or 14,00 tons a year. Our sanitized, regular mulch, comprised 42 percent or 17,000 tons a year. This mulch is windrowed, monitored for weed seed kill temperatures, and turned three times. It is available free to the public at six distribution sites. A product call[ed] `Soil Builder' is produced by post process screening and comprised seven percent or 3,000 tons the first year offered for sale. Our newest product called 'Hardwood Log Mulch,' is a commercial grade mulch, comparable to cypress mulch that is sold to property management firms, landscapers, and bagging companies. Hardwood Log Mulch totals 15 percent or 6,000 tons a year.'"
