Translated Title:Tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea), a drought resistant but often overlooked grass, useful for grassing-down orchards and vineyards

Abstract/Contents:"Tall fescue was found abundantly in old swards in a vineyard and a pear orchard. Although the swards were established from seed, tall fescue was apparently not included in the seeds mixtures and presumably established itself independently. The sites, both near Geisenheim, can be described, from their general and local climatic conditions, as particularly mild in winter, warm in summer and dry. The soils are loams of various sorts and, at least in part, have good permeability. In the light of these observations, reference is made to the incomplete description of the ecology of tall fescue in the German floras, the additional information in the English-language literature and the use of tall fescue in utility turf in the transition zone of North America. For this reason and particularly because of its good wear tolerance, this grass appears very suitable for grassing-down vineyards."
