Abstract/Contents:"Before a green should be reconstructed, an in depth survey and analysis needs to be conducted. Reconstruction should be the last option after all other management solutions have been considered. Many reasons exist that push a golf course into realizing reconstruction is the only permanent solution in order to maintain a quality putting surface year round. Poor drainage, shaded conditions and inadequate size to handle today's play are all reasons reconstruction is inevitable. Careful planning of every aspect of the project and communication to the club's owner or board members is also essential. A key factor to a successful plan is a mature sod nursery to transplant onto the reconstructed green. A nursery grown from aerifier plugs from the remaining greens serves the purpose well--a perfect match every time! All 18 greens stay consistent both in appearance and ball roll. By using a nursery made from exisiting green aerifier plugs prior to starting a reconstruction project insures a green that is back into play as soon as possible and with smiles on all the members' faces. A final note to insure absolute success is to communicate that the green will be playable in 4-6 weeks but not the same as the other 17 greens. One to two years may be required before all greens act perfectly alike."
