| Abstract/Contents: | "Kentucky bluegrass Poa pratensis L. is a major turfgrass species in Nebraska. It is well adapted to the wide temperature ranges found in Nebraska and is used widely as an ornamental or sport turf species...Bluegrass cultivars are highly variable in respect to color, quality, density, shade tolerance and pest resistence. Therefore, the National Kentucky Bluegrass trial was established in 1991. The high maintenance Kentucky bluegreass test was planted in October 1991 at a seeding rate of 2 lbs/1000 sq. ft. The study was comprised of 125 entries with 3 replications planted in a completely randomized block design...Data collection was initiated in the spring of 1994 and the study will be rated monthly for color and quality...General cultivar performance in 1994 was excellent. Cool and wet conditions were advantageous for growth of all cool-season grasses. Cultivars expressed very aggressive growth due to the abundance of rain and good quality ratings." Lists the commercially availabe cultivars with the best overall quality and top cultivars for genetic color. |
