| Abstract/Contents: | Average floret and rachilla lengths in F. ovina subsp. capillata did not differ from those of subsp. valesiaca. Both differed from those of subsp. duriuscula and from all subspp. of F. rubra. In F. rubra, these characters generally, but not always, distinguished between subspp. rubra and commutata, but neither could thereby be distinguished from subsp. trichophylla. Subspecies differed in correlations between lengths of florets and rachillas and in coeff. of variation of both characters. Mixtures could generally be distinguished by the frequency distribution of these lengths. Identification in doubtful cases is discussed. |
