Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were evaluated for their ability to control brown patch at the Rutgers Turf Research Farm in New Brunswick, NJ. A 'Penncross' bentgrass experimental green, established Sep 1986 on a Norton loam, was used for the study. Turf was maintained at a 0.19 in. cutting height. Nitrogen (N) was applied as 34-0-0 on 29 Apr. (1.0 lb actual N/1000 sq ft), as 34-0-0 on 10 May (0.5 lb actual N/1000 sq ft), as urea-formaldehyde on 13 Jun (0.5 lb actual N/1000 sq ft), and as 20-3-20 on 29 Jun and 26 Jul (0.5 lb actual N/1000 sq ft; each date). Turf was aerified with 0.38 in. x 3 in. hollow tynes (2.0 in. spacing) and was then topdressed with 0.125 in. of Fertile Soil on 17-18 May. Soil pH ranged from 6.5 to 6.7 over the test area. Plots were 3 ft x 9 ft and were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Turf was irrigated as needed to avoid drought stress. Weeds were controlled with 0.5 lb 2, 4-D + 0.25 lb. dicamba/A on 16 Nov 1993. Fungicides were applied on 28 Jun (all treatments), 14 Jul (14 day treatment only), 20 Jul (21 day treatment only), 25 Jul (14/28 day treatments) 11 Aug (14/21 day treatments), and 24 Aug (14/28 day treatments). Treatments were applied with a CO₂ compressed air sprayer, using TeeJet 8003E nozzles, adjusted to 30 psi, in water equivalent to 1.9 gal/1000 sq ft. Plots were artifically inoculated on 28 Jun with a five isolate mixture of R. solani grown on autoclaved oats to supplement natural infection. Treatments were visually evaluated for percent turf area infected with R. solani on 8 Jul and 14 Aug. Data were subjected to an arc-sin transformation prior to statistical analysis using an analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Ratings exceeding 10% of the turf area infected with R. solani would be considered an unacceptable level of disease control." More details are given.
