Abstract/Contents:"Mechanical reinforcement of turfgrass sod would provide the handling strength to allow earlier harvest. This reduction in growing time would improve the profitabilty of the sod crop. A machine to lay reinforcing material in a sod field of centipedegrass was developed. Independent of the machine development, field-testing mechanical reinforcement of sod demonstrated that smooth strings are ineffective for reinforcement, but strips of plastic mesh significantly increase sod tensile strength."
