| Abstract/Contents: | "In this study attempts were made to evaluate the productivity, function of soil conservation and for amenity grassland of Japanese lawn grass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) collected from 47 habitats in Japan, based on the determination of dry matter production (DMP), covering ability, and seasonal productivity. To estimate the covering ability, fractal dimension (FD) value and the ability to extend stolons were determined based on the image data scanned from photographs of covered ground. The results obtained were as follows; 1) For production, ecotypes with a high FD value after cutting on turf and high DMP should be selected. 2) For the purpose of conservation, ecotypes with a high FD value after one year after planting and high ability to extend stolons should be selected. 3) For amenity grassland, ecotypes with a high FD value after cutting on turf and low DMP should be selected." |
