| Abstract/Contents: | "The annual weed kochia occurs across the nation on industrial sites such as railroads and parking facilities. Kochia has the distiction of being one of the most widely distributed weeds which has resistance to major herbicide families, including triazine, sulfonylurea, and imidazolinone. During 1995, a herbicide test focusing on kochia control was conducted on the Nebraska Central Railroad near Grand Island, Nebraska. Treatments were applied in April, May and June. Each plot was 123 m long and extended out from trach center a distance of 3.2 m (0.04 ha). All treatments were applied in a total volume of 280 L/ha and were replicated four times in a randomized complete block experimental design. Final evaluation was made in late September. The longest residual control, 152 days, was accomplished with diuron alone and in combinations, and tebuthiuron combinations. The dinitroaniline herbicides, oryzalin, pendimethalin and prodiamine, were effective alternatives for a shorter time, i.e., 77 DAT. When treatments were applied in late June, presumably after all kochia had germinated, herbiccide combinations without a residual component were effective; i.e., glyphosate plus 2, 4-D, and fluroxypyr. Glufosinate and pelargonic acid were also effective in some treatment combinations." |
