Abstract/Contents:"The objectives of this project were: 1) Determine population dynamics of two Bacillus spp. isolates; 2) Isolation, identification and characterization of additional bacteria native to bermudagrass roots." Precedures: 1) Repeated application of bacterized sand to bermudagrass; 2) Screening bacteria for root-colonization. "For B.subtilis isolated D-39Sr, the root-colonization values remained within a very narrow range of log10 0.9 CFU to log10 1.2 CFU per mg root throughout the study for all three application levels. For B.pumilus isolate 147R, there were no significant differences between root-colonization values at any sampling date for any of the three application levels...The serach for bacterial isolates that would colonize bermudagrass roots better than the two Bacillus isolates described above was not successful."
