Abstract/Contents:"Selection of Steinernema scapterisci and Ormia depleta as the biocontrol agents to be tested in the field was made...Three major field trials with the nematode are now in operation. At two of them (c and d, each using 6 sites) the nematode alone is on trial. At the third, using 21 sites, the nematode (e) and fly (j) are jointly under test. The fly alone is under test in three trials (g, h, i) using 4 sites. The fly and the nematode have both arrived of their own accord at another site in Alachua County. A single application of the nematode at 200,000 per square meter succeeded in reducing mole cricket populations substantially at the earliest-established sites (b); it did so within 2 years and continues to suppress mole cricket populations for a further 3 years, after which time sampling was terminated. Assessment of the ability of the fly to reduce mole cricket populations is awaited eagerly."
