Abstract/Contents:"During the spring and summer of 1975, extension field and greenhouse experiments were conducted in the Agronomy, Soils, and Microbiology Departments using Spirillum on a wide variety of grass species - corn, sorghum, pearl millet, guineagrass, St. Augustine and other forage grasses. Results from these tests showed: 1. That corn, sorghum and millet have high nitrogen fixing potential relative to other grasses. 2. That inoculated pearl millet and guineagrass yielded significantly more than uninoculated plots. 3. That some nitrogen fertilizer is needed to enhance the biological N-fixation. 4. That we already have present in some of our Florida soils strains of bacteria similar to Spirillum. 5. That the Spirillum bacteria enter the root, as confirmed by labelling with fluorescent antibodies."
