Abstract/Contents: | "With many golf courses striving to adopt a "natural" look, greenkeepers are increasingly being given responsibility for the management of heather and gorse features in areas of the country that are suited to these plants...Heather and gorse form a significant feature of many golf courses where they add to the visual (aesthetic) appearance, as well as providing an important strategic role on individual holes (influencing how each shot is to be played). Because both shrubs appear naturally within the open countryside, there is a tendency for golf clubs to neglect the management of these areas until the inevitable loss of quality demands a rapid management response." |
