| Abstract/Contents: | Ethofumesate (Prograss), from Nor-Am Chemical Company, is selectively active against poa annua in cool season golf turfs, and in dormant bermudagrass. It is labeled for use in perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, and fairway maintained bentgrass. Late summer and fall is the best time to apply Prograss for best control of poa annua. Bare areas that may appear as a result of poa annua elimination could be overseeded just prior to treatment with perennial ryegrass. Kentucky bluegrass seedlings are sensitive to Prograss, and thus should not be overseeded before or after treatment. Prograss does not inhibit rhizome development. Bentgrass maintained as fairways could likewise be treated with Prograss. These areas should be overseeded prior to treatment, but delay applying Prograss until 30 to 45 days after emergence. A slow release fertilizer will encourage the seedlings. Longer lasting results are achieved if identical treatments with Prograss are undertaken for two successive years. |
