| Abstract/Contents: | Isobutylidene diurea (IBDU) is a synthetic organic condensation product of urea and isobutraldehyde, containing 32.19% nitrogen. Tests conducted on soil pH effects on IBDU mineralization indicated that at approximately 1.5 lbs N/1000 sq ft, the soil pH is reduced as much as 1 pH unit in about 6 weeks. Rates of release are significantly greater in soil with an original pH of 5.7 than in soil with a pH of 7.7. Particle size affects nitrogen release after the first four weeks following application. N particles 0.6-0.7mm have completely released their N by week 6. This compares with 50% release after 10 weeks for 1.7-2.0mm particles. A mathematical description of nitrogen release is hoped for in the future. |
