Abstract/Contents:"Fourteen bermudagrass varieties and experimentals plus a local selection of buffalograsses (Buchloe dactyloides) were vegetatively planted in Columbia on August 1, 1983. Turf is mowed at 5/8 inch as needed with a reel mower. The area is fertilized with a total of 1 or 2 lb N/1000 sq. ft. during the summer. Turf is irrigated to prevent severe drought stress. All of the Kansas State selections were well established after one year. Other entries, including some of the 'Tif' series, were slower to establish and several entries winterkilled between 1984-1990. Kansas State cultivars and selections and 'Mich. C-53' have generally persisted in better condition than the other bermudagrass entries. But all entries have shown slow recovery from winter conditions at some point during the 10-year study. 'Guymon' bermudagrass (seeded variety for the transition area) was added to the test in Spring 1986. 'Hickory Hills', a vegetative selection from Springfield, MO was added in spring, 1988. Buffalograss (Columbia selection) established slowly but has shown excellent spring greenup, summer quality and fall color since 1986." Presents the results of spring greenup, 1985-1994, of bermudagrass entries and buffalograss, and quality of bermudagrass entires and buffalograss, 1993.
