Abstract/Contents:"Trials were conducted on a commercial Kentucky bluegrass seed production field near Post Falls, ID. Soil was a Garrison gravelly loam with a pH of 5.5, 5.09% OM, and fertilized with 750 lb/A of 20-12-8-5 on Oct 1, 1993 and 225 lb/A of 20-12-8-5 on Apr 1, 1994. The plot received 5-7 in. of supplemental, sprinkler irrigation in Fall 1993 and Spring 1994, in addition to 23 in. of rainfall. Individual treatment plots were 10 x 20 ft with four replications in a randomized complete block design. Two fungicides were applied alone or with three surfactant rates applied at pre-anthesis on 31 May 94. Treatments were applied with a CO₂-powered boom sprayer with XR11002VS flat-fan TeeJet nozzles at 40 psi using a 28 gal/acre carrier rate. Plots were rated for disease severity on 1 Jul 94 by observings 1) the amount of sclerotia and 2) the amount of panicle exudate (honeydew). On 1 Jul 94, approximately 125 panicles were hand harvested per plot, and the mean weight per panicle of clean seed and sclerotia were determined. Disease, as measured by observation of honeydew and sclerotia, was severe in non-treated control plots. The least amount of disease was observed in plots treated with fungicides tank mixed with Sylgard 309. Intermediate control was observed with Tilt (4 fl oz/A) and Folicur (3.6 fl oz/A). Seed yield per panicle was not affected by pre-anthesis application of fungicides alone or fungicides mixed with Sylgard 309. The use of Sylgard 309 markedly enhanced the efficacy of Tilt and Folicur for ergot control."
