Abstract/Contents:"This report is a continuation of the trial that commenced in 1992. Data on nitrate leaching was collected on only one occasion on September 7, 1994 as rainfall was insufficient at any other time to produce leachate. The treatment that applied 0.5 kg N/100m² of urea on a single application produced 14.2ml/l nitrate. None of the other treatments produced measurable levels of nitrate in the leachate waters. In 1993 no nitrate leaching was observed in the summer months, but with the advent of cooler weather in September and October nitrate leaching was observed in some treatments. Increased nitrate leaching was associated with the use of water soluble urea. Greatly increased leaching occurred when higher rates of nitrogen were applied at 4 week intervals as opposed to lower rates applied at 2 week intervals. Data from the two years would indicate that higher rates of water solable urea fertilizer has potential for leaching from sand based greens, particularly in the fall period when soil temperatures are reduced."
