Abstract/Contents:"Twenty seven nitrogen fertilizers were evaluated for their effect on established Kentucky Bluegrass turf over a two year period beginning August 4, 1993. The fertilizers included a) slow release synthetics, b) slow and quick release synthetic mixtures, c) organics from biological sources, and d) liquid synthetics. Response to the applications was measured in terms of increased vegetative growth, colour improvement, area cover, turf density and turf injury. The newly developed slow release nitrogen sources (polymer coated urea, cyclo-diurea, and polymer/surphur coated ureas) outperformed all other nitrogen sources with the exception of methylene urea. These new sources of nitrogen were significantly better than the sulphur coated ureas and organic based fertilizers in all evaluation categories. Three polymer coated ureas were also evaluated for a long residual effect, where one application was made over the entire growing season. From data collected the polymer coated products do provide an even response over a full growing season."
