Abstract/Contents:"Sixteen cultivars of Poa pratensis were tested for their suitability for Alpine conditions. Observations were made on attack by winter diseases (Fusarium nivale and Typhula), greening-up in spring and behaviour under wear treatment with a roller. Disease attack varies during the year and is more severe with wear, which accentuates cultivar differences. The same is true of greening-up in spring. Most cultivars have appreciably less Poa pratensis in the sward, and are more clearly differentiated one from another, without wear than with it. Taking into consideration all the aforementioned characteristics, it is apparent that the best cultivars in all respects are Parade, Trampas, and Pac 61. Of the cultivars in the middle group, Enmundi and Kimono deserve mention. Those which appear to be definitely unsuitable are Evb. 307, Merion, St. v. Engelen, and Nugget."
