Abstract/Contents:"In the Netherlands, fully automatic irrigation systems are seldom installed on sports grounds, and anyway need special approval. Fully automatic irrigation systems are really only suitable for practice pitches of very sandy construction, especially as installation costs are high and difficulties arise in mechanical maintenance operations. Therefore it is simply recommended that a pitch should have a hydrant behind one of the goals, particularly for watering renovated areas. A new method of watering with a hose system has been developed in recent years, which is reasonably priced and not labour-intensive in use. Various comments are made on the requirements which must be met by fully automatic sunken watering systems."
