| Abstract/Contents: | "Completion care as part of the cultivation of planted areas causes considerable expense mainly originating from the mechanically controlling of weeds. In order to examine the question if by covering the areas concerned with an appropriate mulch or by using chemical soil sterilants the cost of care can be reduced, four types of ground cover plants were examined using different methods of treatment. The height and density of the plants were measured at the same time. The time spent on completion care could be considerably reduced in the course of the first vegetation period by mulching with sawdust or peat as well as by sterilizing the soil. With regard to the development of the plant stock the mulched areas showed clearly lower growth rates than the untreated and sterilized variants. To assess the cost situation in the course of development care the tests will be continued." |
