Abstract/Contents:Discusses a successful program instituted in Arlington County, Virginia to accomplish two goals: to reduce emissions from lawnmowers and to reduce the amount of grass clippings going to the county's incinerator. Rebates were offered to residents who purchased electric powered mulching mowers, gasoline powered mulching mowers, and manual reel mowers. The county used brochures distributed by refuse collectors to advertise the rebate opportunity. They also visited lawn equipment retailers to make sure sales staff were fully aware of the program.
