| Abstract/Contents: | Soil is discussed as being a medium for growth of higher plants, and being the host of many living organisms. The microscopic organisms in soil mainly consist of; bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, and algae. Rhizospheres also exist, providing a site for free-living nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Faunal communities also exist, including; earthworms, enchytraeid worms, nematodes, protozoa, etc. Also discussed are the effects of pesticides on soil organisms. |
