Abstract/Contents:Describes the origination of the Maine Compost Team. Originally brought together to do a demonstration project with yard trimmings composting, but has evolved into a significant force for recycling organics. It is expanding use of composting among the municipal, agricultural, industrial, commercial and institutional sectors. Each member represents a different agency in the state, and brings a different perspective to the group. The group is currently working on starting the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Regional Compost School, which will include three days of classroom instruction, hands on activities, and two days of visits to different sites. These classes will start in the winter of 1996-1997. The group tries to focus its energy on servicing clients, and staying together.
