Abstract/Contents: | Discusses reasons that compost operators decide to bag their finished compost products. The main reason is to reach a broader audience, and to build product acceptance, expanding markets. Companies do not make a lot of money off of their bagged products, but they do not have to invest much into the bagged products themselves. A pioneer in the bagging business is Earthgro, which now has ten different bagging lines in three plants on the east coast, which produce 400,000 tons of product. There are questions as to whether bagging is a worthwhile investment, and the answer depends on which company you ask. Bagging compost and other products costs more than selling it in bulk, and it also requires marketing. |
