| Abstract/Contents: | "Experiments were conducted in 1993 and 1994 to evaluate PRE herbicides for control of dallisgrass and bahiagrass. All herbicides were applied in mid-March of each year using a ² powered backpack sprayer. Dallisgrass and bahiagrass were seeded into the experiment area using a PTO driven slit seeder prior to treatment. Control evaluations were made monthly beginning in June and ending in September. All PRE herbicides were applied as single or sequential applications 60 days after initial treatment (DAIT). Herbicides included pendimethalin, oryzalin, or oxadiazon (3360 or 1680 + 1680 g ai/ha 60 DAIT), prodiamine (840 or 420 + 420 g ai/ha 60 DAIT), or dithiopyr (560 or 280 + 280 g ai/ha 60 DAIT). Bahiagrass control of 80% and greater in 1993 was provided with all treatments except oryzalin. Dallisgrass control of 80% or more was observed with either application method of pendimethalin or the single application of prodiamine or oxadiazon. In 1994, a single application of pendimethalin was the only treatment to provide at least 80% season-long control of bahiagrass, while a single application of prodiamine was the only treatment to provide at least 80% season-long control of dallisgrass." |
