Abstract/Contents:When the Oakland Hills Country Club's South Course, also called "The Monster", was getting prepared for the upcoming U.S. Open, golf course professionals from all over the country came to help. When the course had been prepared, the day before the tournament two and a half inches of rain poured on the golf course, washing out bunkers, flooding fairways and lakes, and getting cars stuck in the mud it produced. Local superintendents brought in their crews and equipment to drain the one million gallons of standing water on the course. With teamwork, the course was playable for the tournament the next day.
