| Abstract/Contents: | "The playing of 147 golf greens was characterised in terms of green speed, surface evenness, hardness and the bounce and stopping distance of balls landing with two combinations of approach angle, velocity and backspin. Playing characteristics were influenced by various combinations of soil conditions, sward type, the age of the green and aspects of management. Player questionnaires to assess the perceived quality of the surface were collected at the same time as when playing quality was measured. Based on the distribution of playing quality measurements and the player assessment data, limits for interpreting the playing quality of golf greens are proposed in terms of a normal and acceptable range." |
