Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the act of controlling algae with the use of straw. This discovery came about when a bale of hay was accidentally dropped into a farm reservoir. Researchers believe that a compound called "Factor X" is released from the straw having this effect on controlling the algae. "It is important to put your bales of straw in early. April or May may be a good time to put them in the pond...If you cannot find barley straw, don't give up, use an alternative. Wheat straw, oat straw or even hay will work." |
