Abstract/Contents:"Festuca arundinaceae was grown at high and low wind-speed at two levels of either soil phosphorus or soil nitrogen. At increased wind-speed, mean relative growth rate and leaf extension rate were reduced when plants were grown with high nutrient concentrations and further reduced when phosphorus or nitrogen stress was imposed on the plants. Transpiration was increased at high wind-speed except under conditions of phosphorus stress, where the rate was actually decreased. Relationships between water stress, wind and nutrient status are discussed, especially in relation to the possible role of phosphorus stress in causing sclerophylly."
