Abstract/Contents:The evapotranspiration system tested consisted of a bed of masonry sand of area 3.40 m X 1.40 m and depth 1.95 m. The system had a slope of 3%. Kentucky tall fescue was used as the plant cover. Although such a confined system proved impractical, mainly owing to difficulties in regulating the balance between water inputs and outputs and in maintaining fescue growth under the adverse conditions prevailing, there was reason to suppose that evapotranspiration under some conditions could be an effective means of disposing of considerable amounts of wastewater, as for instance when incorporated in wastewater disposal systems utilizing soil absorption.
