Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the redesigning of the International Golf Center. "The design challenge for Dick Nugent and son Tim was to build golf holes atop the landfill without cutting into the clay cap and exposing the dump beneath. They had to irrigate and drain the golf holes on unstable land utilizing flexible pipe that could bend a bit without bursting. They had to camouflage methane gas vents so as to be unobtrusive. They also had to make the golf courses attractive to customers even though no trees could be planted. Their solution was to give the course a seaside flavor, with low mounds of tall fescue grass framing wide bent-grass fairways." |
