Abstract/Contents:Inhibitor constants, Ki and Ki', for zinc have been determined for a number of soluble and cell-wall-bound acid phosphatases of two zinc-tolerant and two non-tolerant clones of Anthoxanthum odoratum. The values of Ki for the soluble enzymes of both clones approached infinity which suggested that the inhibition was mainly of an uncompetitive nature. The tolerant cones possessed Ki values for soluble and cell wall enzymes which were significantly higher than the corresponding values for the non-tolerant clones were not significantly different from one more stable complexes with zinc than tolerant ones. The relevance of this observation to metal tolerance mechanisms is discussed.
