Abstract/Contents: | "Last year, the Spokane Regional Compost Facility processed more than 20,000 tons of yard trimmings. The 43-acre windrow composting site is owned by the City of Spokane and operated by O. M. Scott and Sons...Compostable yard trimmings are accepted at two transfer stations and Spokane's waste-to-energy plant. Materials are then delivered to the site in Regional Solid Waste System transfer trailers and weighed at the adjacent North County transfer station. After windrow composting, screening, curing and testing, Scott markets 90 percent of the product in bulk. The remainder belongs to the Regional Solid Waste System and is distributed in small quantities at transfer stations without charge to local residents." |
