Abstract/Contents: | "A major limitation for cultivating turfgrasses in Florida and the Southeast is the destruction of roots by plant-parasitic nematodes. The ectoparasitic sting nematode, Belonolaimus longicaudatus, is the most damaging of all the nematodes affecting bermudagrass turf...About 3.5 miilion are spent annually in Florida for nematicide applications...The least expensive and most environmentally friendly method for suppressing plant-parasitic nematodes has historically been the use of host-plant resistance, either as increased tolerance or antibiosis." Discusses the effect of sting nematoda. |
