| Abstract/Contents: | "The competition to stage the FIFA World Cup Finals is one of the fiercest battles in world sport. The selection process is characterised by intrigue, innuendo and complex political dealing but the prize for winners is to host one of the largest events in the world...The English Football Association will be bidding for the 2006 Finals and at this early stage is confident of success...The list of requirements for the 2006 finals will not be published by FIFA until January 1999...The timetable for 2006 begins with the issue of the bid requirements in January 1999. Bid documents have to be received by FIFA September 1999 with the final decision announced by FIFA in June 2000. With Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, Peru/Ecuador and South Africa among potential bidders, and with the political manoeuvring already in full swing it should be an interesting competition years before a ball is kicked." |
