Abstract/Contents:Eighteen graminaceous hosts, including four varieties of Hordeum vulgare and varieties of Lolium perenne, L. multiflorum, Festuca arundinacea and P. pratensis, were inoculated with spore suspensions of S. nodorum (Leptosphaeria nodorum) and S. tritici, both of which had been obtained from the wheat variety Kolibri. Both S. tritici and L. nodorum were reisolated from all hosts on which pycnidia were formed and suspensions from each culture were used to inoculated Kolibri seedlings. The majority of isolates of both fungi from the alternative hosts were less virulent than the original wheat isolate. All the isolates of L. nodorum from barley were much less virulent than the wheat isolate whilst for S. tritici the isolates from F. arundinacea and P. annua were as virulent as the original wheat isolate, but there were differences in the behaviour of the barley isolates.
