Abstract/Contents:Discusses a survey completed by 123 German golf course superintendents, dealing with the pest and disease control methods, and the kinds of pests and diseases on their courses. The most common complaints were of; fungus, snow mold, clover and other unwanted plants, insects, crows, and wild boars. The majority of the courses surveyed used some method of pesticide, and many used fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides. Discusses the use of non-chemical forms of control, noting that many superintendents are unaware of these alternatives. Also mentions that some of these non-chemical forms of control are not as successful as their chemical counterparts. Most superintendents place great importance on pesticides and other forms of chemical control. Also discusses a new pesticide law that should be in effect at the end of 1998, which would make the laws dealing with pesticides much stricter.
