Abstract/Contents:Discusses tests done on five golf courses in southern Bavaria and Tirol in Northern Austria to determine which species were most suitable for golf greens and tees at higher altitudes. The most important environmental differences at high altitudes are: the large amount of precipitation in the form of rain and snow, and the short golf season. Poa supina was found to be the most effective species, and was most resistant to traffic and the effects of weather. It is found naturally in the Alps, and copes well in higher altitudes.
