| Abstract/Contents: | Presents the results of an experiment evaluating the effects of 19 different types of golf shoe spikes on putting greens. The spikes tested included two lengths of metal spikes and seventeen types of alternative spikes. Greens subjected to different types of spikes were rated for quality by golf course superintendents, crew members and other visitors to a turfgrass field day. Of all the types of spikes tested, only 8 mm metal spikes received an average rating suggesting they be banned from the greens; 6mm metal spikes were rated as causing apparent damage. Of the alternative spikes, EtonicĀ® Stabilitiesā¢ were rated as causing the least damage. |
