Abstract/Contents:Presents the results of a study examining the effects of rolling and fertilization programs on three different types of golf greens. The types of greens studied were (1) USGA specification greens, (2) 80:10:10 sand:peat:soil greens, and (3) native soil greens. Greens were evaluated for dollar spot, color, turfgrass quality and green speed. USGA greens exhibited the most dollar spot, followed by 80:10:10 greens; native soil greens had considerably less dollar spot. Rolling and higher rates of nitrogen fertilization tended to reduce dollar spot. Higher rates of potassium reduced dollar spot for rolled greens, but increased dollar spot for unrolled greens. Rolling tended to increase green speed. There were no significant differences in turfgrass quality except for low ratings on rolled 80:10:10 plots which had developed black layer; reasons for the black layer are unclear.
