| Abstract/Contents: | "A selection index for multiple traits in turfgrass is useful in developing a single value representing an individual or population's genetic worth. This value can be used to set selection intensity at a desired level that would include the multiple traits. A turf-type Buchloë dactyloides population was evaluated for several visual and physical characters. Weighted values were assigned to selected specific traits after they were evaluated for specific phenotypic and genotypic parameters. The results produced a selection index containing seven traits. From the index, selection intensity was set at 30% and 12 superior half-sib families were selected for recombination as synthetic cultivars." |
