Abstract/Contents:"This evaluation was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on colonial bentgrass maintained under golf course fairway management conditions, at 0.5 inch cutting height. The test area was fertilized on 3 May with ammonium sulfate 21-0-0 (0.5 lb nitrogen) and Scotts 22-0-16 (0.5 bl nitrogen), and on 17 Jun and 16 Jul with 1.0 lb nitrogen per 1000 sq ft (Scotts 19-0-17). Trimec Bentgrass Formula 2.1EC at 1.0 fl oz per 1000 sq ft was applied on 17 May for control of broadleaf weeds. Individual plots, 3 ft x 15 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a CO²-powered boom sprayer, using Teejet 8004 nozzles, at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft, except as noted in the table. Granular formulations were applied with a shaker jar and irrigated with approximately 0.3 inches water. Applications were made on 21 Jun, and 4 and 20 Jul, and 1 Aug, except as noted in the table. Brown patch was evaluated on 22 Jul and 1 Aug. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and Waller-Duncan k=100 test. Disease pressure was moderately heavy during the latter part of July. Complete suppression of brown patch throughout the entire test period was provided by both rates of Heritage, Eagle + Fore, Daconil Zn, Daconil Ultrex + IB16211, ProStar, Echo, and S-6874. Seventeen of the 24 treatments were providing excellent brown patch control on 1 Aug. Plots treated with Hertiage or ProStar alone were severely infected with dollar spot. Sentinel was applied once (21 Jun) and was free of brown patch on 22 Jul (31 days after treatment), but efficacy was significantly reduced by 1 Aug (41 days after treatment)."
