Abstract/Contents:"Trials were conducted on golf greens at Pullman, WA and Whitefish, MT. The sand-based golf greens were constructed at Pullman on a Palouse silt loam and at Whitefish on a Whitefish cobbly silt loam and had been topdressed with sand by the golf course superintendents for several years. The pH was 7.5 and 5.8 at Pullman and Whitefish. respectively. Annual precipitation was 18.7 in. at Pullman and 20.2 in. at Whitefish. Individual treatment plots were 10 ft x 10 ft with three replications at Pullman and four replications at Whitefish in a randomized complete-block design. Treatments were applied on 26 Oct 95 at Whitefish and 17 Nov 95 at Pullman with a CO²-pressurized boom sprayer with XR11002VS fan-flat TeeJet nozzles using a 28 gal H²O/A carrier rate. Conidia of Microdochium nivale were sprayed on the plot at Pullman at a rate of 12.3 X 10⁵ conidia per sq ft on 4 Dec 95; the plot at Whitefish received no supplemental inoculum. Snow covered the plots from erly Nov 1995 through late Mar 1996 at Whitefish and 19 Jan 96 through 9 Feb 96 at Pullman. Individual plots were evaluated for disease severity and turf quality on 12 Feb 96 at Pullman and 4 Apr 96 at Whitefish. Disease index, as measured by the number of colonies on the turf, was severe at both sites. All fungicides, except Prostar 50W and Chipco 26019 2F 4 fl oz (at Whitefish), gave effective control of M. nivale. Best, but not significantly different, pink snow mold control was observed with Terraclor 75W 4 oz at Whitefish, and Banner MC 4 fl oz + Medallion 50W 0.5 oz at Pullman. Fungicide treatments generally improved turf quality."
