Abstract/Contents:"This evaluation was conducted at the Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, University Park, PA, on creeping bentgrass maintained under golf course greens management conditions, at 0.16 inch cutting height. The test area was fertilized on 3 May with 1.0 lb nitrogen (0.5 lb each from ammonium sulfate 21-0-0 and Scotts 19-0-17) per 1000 sq ft, and on 24 May with 0.75 lb nitrogen (Scotts 19-0-17) per 1000 sq ft. Individual plots, 3 ft x 11 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a CO²-powered boom sprayer, using TeeJet 8004 nozzles, at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft, except as noted in the table. Applications were made on 11 and 25 Jun, and 9 and 23 Jul, except as noted in the table. The experimental area was inoculated on 13 Jun, two days after the first treatment application, by hand-scattering S. homoeocarpa-infested rye grain, at a density of 20-30 grains per sq ft, over the entire test area. Five isolates were used in this inoculation. Dollar spot was evaluated on 2 and 22 Jul. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and Waller-Duncan k=100 test. Dollar spot pressure was severe and uniform throughout the experimental area. Nearly all of the treatments tested provided excellent control of dollar spot, including the ten reduced-rate mixtures. Although the isolates of S. homoeocarpa used are sensitive to benzimidazole fungicides, a portion of the natural S. homoeocarpa population in the experimental area is benzimidazole-resistant. The presence of this resistant component is probably associated with the slightly decreased efficacy of mixtures with a benzimidazole component."
