| Abstract/Contents: | "An experiment was conducted at Desert Canyon Golf Course near Orondo, WA to determine the effect of spray volume on the effectiveness of Turfcide 400 4F in controlling Typhula blight (gray snow mold). Typhula blight has been a recurrent problem at this site. Turfcide was applied at a rate of 12 fl oz of product per 1000 sq ft in 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 gallons of water per 1000 sq ft on 3 Nov 1995 using a bicycle wheeled boom sprayer equipped with 8004 tee-jet flat fan nozzles at 40 psi. The plot design was a randomized complete block and treatments were applied to 3 ft x 10 ft areas of turf in each of five blocks. Nonsprayed areas of turf in each block served as checks. The turf was originally seeded in 1991 and was mowed at a height of 0.5 in. Snow was present on the plot from mid-Dec through early Mar. On 19 Mar and 4 Apr 1996, the percentage of turf damaged by Typhula blight was estimated. Turf color was also rated on 4 Apr using a 0-10 scale where 10=very dark green turf. Data were subjected to ANOVA to determine if there were significant treatment effects. All applications of Turfcide significantly reduced the percentage of turf damaged by disease and increased turf color compared to the nonsprayed check. Spray volume had no significant effect on the level of disease, although application in one gallon of water had higher, but not significantly different levels of disease compared to Turfcide applied in 2 to 5 gallons of water per 1000 ft²." |
