Abstract/Contents:"This study was conducted at the Landscape Management Research Center, University Park, PA, on perennial ryegrass, maintained under golf course fairway management conditions. The experimental area was fertilized on 28 May with 1.0 lb nitrogen (Scotss Poly-S 36-3-7) per 1000 sq ft, and on 20 Jun with 0.5 lb nitrogen (Scotts Super Greens Fertilizer 19-0-17) per 1000 sq ft. Vorlan 50 WG at 2.0 oz per 1000 sq ft was applied 30 May for control of leaf spot: and Dyrene 4 F at 8.0 fl oz was applied on 21 Jun for control of brown patch. Individual treatment plots, 3 ft x 8 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied on 9 Jul with a CO²-powered boom sprayer, using TeeJet 8004 nozzles, at 40 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft, except as noted in the table. Granular formulations were applied with a shaker jar and irrigated with approximately 0.4 inches of water. The experimental area was inoculated on 11 Jul, 2 days after treatment (DAT), with a 6-isolate pool of Pythium aphanidermatum. Following inoculation, the area was enclosed in a 30 ft x 48 ft polyethylene greenhouse to minimize radiational cooling at night. The greenhouse was vented during daylight hours, and closed at night. An internal intermittent misting system provided continuous high relative humidity. Percentage of individual plot areas blighted was assessed on 15 Jul (6 DAT). Data were subjected to analysis variance and Waller-Duncan k=100 test. Disease pressure in this inoculated trial was intense, providing a rigorous challenge to the fungicides in test. Excellent control of Pythium foliar blight was provided by WECO 42894, CGA329351 (0.61G), Subdue, the high rate of Banol, and Heritage alone and in combination with Fore."
