Abstract/Contents:"Eight fungicide treatments were applied to plots of perennial ryegrass located at the John Seaton Anderson Turf and Ornamental Research Facility at the University of Nebraska Research and Development Center, Ithaca, NE. The experimental area was inoculated in early Jun and mid-Jul with Pythium aphanidermatum cultured on sterilized tall fescue seed. The inoculum was applied with a 4-ft wide Gandy drop spreader calibrated to deliver 5 lb tall fescue inoculum per 1000 sq ft, and the area was covered with seed guard cloth for 48 hr post-inoculation increase humidity of the turf canopy. Plots were mowed three times weekly at 0.62 in. and maintained at 80% ETp. Preemergent weed control was 1.5 lb pendimethlin per acre and postemergent was Confront at 2 qt per acre, both applied 6 Jun 96. Plots were fertilized with 1 lb urea (46-0-) per 1000 sq ft. Fungicide applications were initiated 25 Jun and repeated at 14- or 21-day intervals. Products were applied with a CO²- pressurized (25 psi) backpack sprayer with a flat fan nozzle calibrated to deliver 5 gal spray solution per 1000 sq ft. Twenty-five square foot plots were replicated four times in a randomized complete block design. Precipitation was below normal for Apr and above normal for May through Sep. Temperatures were below normal during May through Sep with cool nights that produced long dew periods. Pythium blight injury was moderate in Jul and moderately severe in Aug. Disease injury for the Heritage and Daconil ZN plus Aliette treatments was light, and moderately light for the Daconil Ultrex plus Aliette treatment. Disease injury for the remaining treatments was not significantly different from that of the untreated control. No phytotoxicity was noted for any of the treatments."
