Abstract/Contents:Festuca arundinacea has proved very suitable in the USA for producing turf on sports fields, parks, airfields and other sites where its coarse texture is acceptable. It roots deeply and can grow in heavily compacted and wet soils. It is best oversown with other grasses since it has no rhizomes or stolons. The cv. Alta is used most commonly in California and the cv. Kentucky 31 in the eastern states.
